White Dog perked up at the mention of YoYoMa. I was talking to Dr. Julia.
Yo went in for a blood draw this morning. It has been five days since he began the new IMHA medication, mycophenolate, which replaced the cyclosporine in hopes of overcoming the cocktail interaction which had begun misfiring. This momma spent the weekend peering like a hawk at my boy and checking his gum color every time he walked close enough by for me to grab his collar.
"Hey," Dr. Julia started when I answered the phone at noon. "I am going to be your favorite person today. Guess what Yo's HCT number is?" I had spent the past four days just praying it would not drop from the 30 where he was last week. "I don't know 32," I took a really optimistic guess.
"Higher." she teased.
"Thirty-three."
"Nope. Higher. try 37.5!"
"You are joking."
"Really and his White Blood Count is down to 24,000; that is a big drop which is good. This mycophenolate has my attention; let's see him next Tuesday."
"And until then?" I asked knowing the answer but needing to hear the happy sound.
"Why stay the course! Let's not mess with what is working!"
White Dog leaped from my shoulder to go share the news with the others and to call everyone together for celebratory duck jerky.
I thanked our healer, grabbed the treat jar and hurried to message Steve the good news.
