White Dog nudged me and nodded to where Pearl was looking at her own reflection in the window and turning her head this way and that. "I think she REALLY loves her new collar," WD said.
Pearl came to us wearing a collar that the rescue provided. She has allowed us to remove it for baths and to change out tags but the frayed pink necklace seemed to offer her a sense of comfort. The gear has gotten pretty worn and a few weeks ago we picked out a new model.
When it arrived, Steve showed it to her and tried to interest her in trying it on. No go.
Every night since he has, at nite-nite walk time, tried again to introduce the change as he prepares her to be leashed before walks commence. Last night she actually showed interest. He unclasped the new collar and held it out for her to investigate. Slowly, he reached around and took off her old collar. Bella and Bailey stood nearby waiting for the walk.
Steve took her tags off of the old collar and let her sniff each as he laced them onto the new. She sat patiently watching. When he finished he wrapped the collar around her neck and clicked it into place. Her ears went back a bit but she did not complain or try to flee. He clipped on the leash.
I was worried that once on the walk she would twist and buck and try to slip out, but according to all who went with her, Pearl had no difficulties. At treat time I gave her an extra cookie and mentioned how lovely she looked with her new accessory. She took my compliment in stride and went out to watch the others walk from her window perch...and to sneak a peek of herself.
