White Dog looked at me, "You were just trying to figure out what day it is, weren't you?" She laughed at me. "Humans get all tied up in what the calendar says, or the date book, or the clock and then when the routine is broken you scramble."

She is right; we are blissfully at that point in the holidays and Steve's vacation that I must stop and think about what day it is and what we are supposed to be doing. White Dog thinks that we should just scrap the timeline thing and truly live in the moment.

"Won't that affect meal times," I ask. "No, you can just feed us when we let you know we are hungry." "I suppose it would be the same for walks, or pill time or treats." "Yep."

I asked her to consider that Steve's office had a certain expectation of his attendance on a regular and timely basis. "He is happier here anyway, let him just stay with us" she replied. "Yes, but if he does not work there are no green papers to purchase White Dog Army food and treats and toys. It could be a problem."

The mention of no food brought the entire WDA rushing over. "We have NO food!" Sachi wailed. "We will starve!" Stormer moaned. "NO jerky," Nilla sang. Opal spit the toy stuffing from her mouth, "And no more toys!"

I looked across the pack and quieted them. "We STILL have all of those things but mostly because dad is sometimes a slave to the calendar and time. We need to understand and appreciate that sometimes we make responsible choices to get what is needed for ourselves and those we love."

"What momma is saying," WD took over, "is that we should enjoy this freedom as long as we can...to the fullest...but that it will end in too few days. So, Carpe Diem, as I heard once in a movie."

"Don't cry cuz it is over, be glad that it happened at all," Bella added. "Don't waste your time fretting about what will be, it spoils what IS now," Tizenegy chimed in.

"How about, don't spend the afternoon spouting quotes about focusing on now when NOW momma is holding the treat jar," I said quietly. Suddenly we were together, in the now, anticipating treats.
