White Dog was confident that Dr. Julia could fix the problem quickly and easily. She reassured her sister, "Nilla, it is probably a skin infection like you had before. Remember how it made you all itchy and crusty? And how the medicine cleared things up in about 10 days?" She rested her head across Nilla's back.

We had made an appointment to bring our Little Ray of Sunshine in because we recognized that our old girl with the delicate skin balance was once again having troubles. And over the past two days, her eyes have become irritated and red. She needed relief.

Dr. Julia took one look and ran her hand over Nilla's side. "Yep, an infection. Probably bacterial. Bet it really is uncomfortable." Nilla pushed her hand away. "What are you bathing her in?" our vet asked. "Oatmeal shampoo," Steve responded. "That will work and soothe. But also lets give her an antibiotic; this is the same one that worked before."

I asked if this is something chronic that Nilla would periodically face for the rest of her life. "Most likely it will come and go but our goal is to catch it right away when it arises. She is an old girl and her system is beginning to not fight as well. She is on immune system plus supplements which ought to help."

As for the eyes, Nilla jerked away at the mention...before Dr. Julia even shined the light in her orbs. "I am going to give you drops, twice a day dosing. And use baby wipes to gently wipe the outside eye area to remove the tear stains and enzymes that build up. Let's see Nilla again in two weeks, just to make sure we have everything back to normal."

I cuddled My Girl in my arms as we prepared to exit the exam room. "Like White Dog said, Nils, Dr. Julia can fix anything! You will be feeling better in no time!" Nilla nestled her head against me; she doesn't like being out of her element too long. "Let's go home and share the good news with the others," she said.
