White Dog looked at me sympathetically. I had not yet even begun my coffee and the White Dog Army abandoned the Coffee Club to stand in all of the windows loudly singing threats and warnings at the yellow truck. "Poor momma," she clucked. "I see a headache coming."
Today was new evaporative cooler installation day.

It was clear at the end of last season that the old one had given us the best years of its life. We have already had a few close calls temperature-wise this Spring...so guarantee a continuum of comfort for the Army and perhaps to beat seasonal price hikes, we signed on.

The WDA did NOT like ladders being leaned against the side of the house. Roman especially was nervous at the sounds of walking on the roof. NO pup were happy with two strangers prowling all over the property, up the walls, and carrying strange boxes. The lift positioned to move the unit to the roof was met with a fury of protests.
Two hours later cold air started pouring through the vents. The WDA was startled by the efficiency as Steve told us all of the features that modern swamp coolers included (that our ancient one lacked).  We all agreed the decision had been a good one that we would appreciate more and more as summer came to Albuquerque. Right now, momma was cold in the downdraft and asked the thermostat be set for old bones. "They said to run it on high for a bit," Steve said. The installers were sung a tribute of "thanks" and headed off.

No pup wanted to climb the ladder to SEE our new appliance but all crowded around Steve (as much to prevent him from getting ready and going to work) to see the "baby" pictures.
The White Dog Army filled the windows once again. "Bring it, Summer!" White Dog challenged. "We are ready for you now!" Under my breath I muttered, "Please be careful what you ask for Little White Dog of My Heart or we might be scorched."
