White Dog has been a challenge every single day this week at pill time. Steve portions out, hides in various medium, and distributes medicine after breakfast and dinner for the White Dog Army. It takes a good memory and coordination to remember that Roman prefers pills in hot dogs and Bella in cream cheese...and to slip Bella's dose past the big kids crowding at the gate into her tiny mouth.
White Dog wants her medications in STRAWBERRY cream cheese; she will not accept the regular kind, whipped, or another flavor. But even accommodating her whim White Dog made Steve beg and finally get a little firmer about taking her meds. "Look, Baby Girl, you need this. Now you can either take it or I will ask momma to hold you and will help you take and swallow it." She looked at him...and at me...then took the pill. As she left the room I said, "what gives with her?"
Steve shook his head. "Last week they were out of her normal 'brand' of strawberry cream cheese and they substituted another. Apparently THIS brand does not have as much appeal to our girl and her refined palate. I have ordered her brand with the groceries I will pick up this evening."
After dinner, Steve loaded up his little plate full of things hiding pills and began the medication process. "Good luck," I said as he passed me. "The grocery HAD her usual brand so hopefully all will be good."
He went into the office and walked out less than a minute later...smiling. "Like there was NEVER any problem at all."
