"Any requests?" I asked her. "Maybe, but it is not a story. Tell me why when Zso and I are not white, you call us all the White Dog Army."
"I hope you do not fret that you are somehow excluded," I started. "In fact you and Zsofia...and Trixie before you...are grand examples of why we ARE the White Dog Army of Love (that is the full name, you know)."
Bailey licked my cheek and tilted her head in puzzlement. "But I am only a tiny bit white," she countered.
"We are going to talk about Science for a minute, Sweetie; you are very smart and I know you will get this. See that beautiful sunlight shining through the window on us?"
She turned to look then nodded.
"That light is White Light. It is strong and beautiful." I fumbled around in the drawer of my computer cart until I found it.
"This is a prism. It is a special kind of glass that..." I moved the prism into the beam of light hitting the blankets..."when White Light enters it allows us to see that what looks merely white is made up of every color of the rainbow. See?" I pointed to the rainbow refracting onto the wall. Bailey gave a howl of approval and pawed at the glass which danced at the movement.
"This was the image White Dog and I had in mind when Quinn joined our family and we began the White Dog Army of Love. A strong united shining light of love that was made up of every color (and size, and heritage, and ability, and age); a force to make a positive difference in the world and promote love. An example for humans in their interactions with others of the planet and with each other."
"Momma, your words make me so proud to have been chosen. I was so wrong to think I was maybe an accident, an afterthought." I kissed her nose. "Bailey, you and Zso are every bit as valued as White Dogs as White Dog herself. NEVER think of being the Darkest White Dogs as an insult...it is a special honor."
Bailey hopped to the floor. "I have to go share this with Zsofia!"
