White Dog smiled sheepishly. "Sorry, momma, they were driving me crazy so I told them to go see you." "Gee, thanks, I think." "You will come up with some creative outlets," she reassured me and I knew then I was in trouble.

"We are BORED," was the song. "There is NOTHING to do and dad is at work and won't even consider playing or going on walks or rides. White Dog said you could keep us busy doing something fun. Well?"

I muttered, "thanks White Dog," under my breath before addressing my ennui-filled entourage. "How about a little physical activity?" I proposed. "Like a backyard Scavenger Hunt. Everyone sits on the deck and I call out an item to find. Each of you must find it and briing it in to me to check off. Then I will give you the next clue. The first one to bring in all five items wins." "Wins what?" "Oh...how about wins a mini scoop of coconut helado?" "Only a mini scoop?" "Naw, it is too hot to go out running all over the yard for just a thimble of ice cream."

"Something indoors, then," I asked. "How about we practice basic commands inside, like Momma Sez?" "You mean we need to line up and then do a 'sit-stay' for example?" "Yes, you can sit right under the evapoative cooler vents so you do not overheat. You already know the commands; we practiced them yesterday." "BORING, momma. Like you said, we did them yesterday. We want to do something fun...and new."

"Well, you know it is a dream of mine to coordinate the entire White Dog Army to sing and act the von Trapp children's parts from  "So Long, Farewell" song from the Sound of Music. https://youtu.be/Qy9_lfjQopU   You are all wonderful actors, remember Hamlet?" "Momma! Such a commitment is not something we would decide on a whim. Mounting a theatrical production takes LOTS of time and planning." "In other words, too much work, eh?" "Next idea?"

"OK, here's one where no one has to do ANYTHING but sit against me and go all zen...I go give each of you a much needed brushing then treats?" "Um, NO!" And suddenly every pup found a reason to head out into the yard.
