Bailey came in and gently lowered herself onto the mat. The way she moved and the soft grunt she made caused me to turn and ask, "Are you OK, Bai? What is the problem?"

My Girl barely raised her head. "Momma, I think I did something really stupid." In the short span it took for her to continue, I conjured four hundred possibilities.

"Remember Dad made the Bombay Potatoes so spicy that they were too hot for either of you to eat? And you told him they could not be saved and even though it was wasting that he should just throw them away?" I nodded as where this was heading became clearer.

"He put them aside to cool off before tossing them and well, I thought that I would give them a taste so I took a few bites from the pan on the counter." I cringed; they were vindaloo spicy and certainly not something that would sit well with pups. "They were SO hot," Bailey continued. "I drank almost a whole bowl of water and still my mouth burns and my tummy hurts. I am sorry. Can you make it stop?"

I called for a Pepcid and a slice of bread. Steve brought both in and looked over at Our Girl. "So let me guess who sampled the potatoes," he said. We gave the pill smooshed into the bread. "The bread will help take the burning out of your mouth," I told her, "and the medicine will help your tummy."

Steve stroked her head. "You might have some lingering effects in your digestive tract. Just try to make it outside if you can."  Normally I insist that every pup be inside at night but understood Bailey's choice to sleep on the deck against the bedroom glass doors. Note: She was back inside and sleeping on the sofa in the morning.

Oh no! Poor Bailey! We are glad the bread and Pepcid seemed to do the trick.
