White Dog buried her face in my lap. "You mean all of last weekend's cleaning craziness was for nothing?" "Yes, Little White Dog of My Heart. None of the White Dog Army needs to fear ringworm because the urgent care doctor now says dad never had it."
Last night the kicker to Steve's mystery ailment was that his knee began to throb and swell; by this morning he could barely hobble on it. The rash had returned and Steve already had a doctor's appointment for next Wednesday. He did not need much convincing to go back to Urgent Care to insist on a rediagnosis and more rigorous look at what was going on.
The knee was a gout flairup of an intensity he had not previously experienced. The UC doc said that gout in rare cases can manifest a rash so that the two might be connected. He did not have ringworm.
THIS time she drew blood and the CBC panel came back all was fine; same with perfect blood pressure and glucose levels. More blood was sent out to test for auto immune diseases and exotics...this won't be back until early next week.
He was sent home with orders to use his gout medicines for control. So far the knee seems helped; but not so much the itching. We all sigh and ask the Universe to reveal the problem and to make Steve feel better.
The White Dog Army has promised to be by his side and nurse him back to health. Zsofia and Bailey have offered to let him lean on them if he needs support. Roman and White Dog are doing research to find more about possible connections between rashes and gout. Opal has placed her favorite stuffie at his side. All are taking turns making sure he knows he is loved.
"After all," White Dog reminded, "love is a VERY powerful healing potion."
