White Dog supervised the furry "elves" as we gathered together the gifts of love we distribute to those in need each Christmas...our way of giving back blessings we have received. Sadly, we have learned over the years that many people who live on the streets are fearful of dogs so the WDA helps load the van and then waits at home until we return with stories of hugs and love.

This year our care packages included the usual lightweight, portable noshes like jerky and cheese crackers but also a pair of socks and a plastic drop cloth. Each bag also included a hat or pair of gloves. The plastic, we learned last year, is highly welcomes as it can become a rain protection, a protector from the wind, a lightweight, foldable shield against the elements. There are gallon bags of kibble for any homeless pups we encounter. We also have fleece blankets that we will deliver next week to the family shelter. Friends who know of our tradition generously sent donations to help fill the bags...and we are so grateful.

Steve and I took to driving the streets to hand out our gifts. Despite the empty streets, 75 bags disappeared quickly.

We returned home to report that the mission was complete and answer questions from the WDA. "Yes, Nilla, there is SO much need out there." "And Bailey you are right some seemed shocked that we would let them touch or hug us." "Pearl, we made a difference and bring back many blessings from those we encountered."

Shifting gears to cocooning in our home, our sanctuary, the day became one of gentle music and togetherness....and Barbara stopped to drop off a delicious selection of homemade cookies (we have such talented friends). Later we will share a salmon meal and coconut cream pie but right now everyone was contented to just be in the moment.

We hope your celebration is as enriching and filled with love.
