White Dog tried to help. "Come on, Opal, it will not hurt. Momma just wants to look at the place on your wrist that you are licking raw." Opal just tucked her leg further under her body.
Opal is not fond of being picked up so I was heart-warmed and surprised when she trusted me enough to let me cuddle her into my embrace while Steve took a look.
There was a patch of dry skin that looked itchy and was wet from being fussed with by her. "I will hold you while dad washes your leg with soap and water," I told her. "And then we will put some medicated spray on it. I do not want you to get an infection." She looked at me with trust but hesitation.
"It will not hurt and will help the spot heal," White Dog joined in to reassure. "And I am sure momma will make sure you get a treat for bravery when they are done."
