White Dog joined me after the Coffee Club adjourned for mid-morning naps. It was cold, grey and snowy. My computer announced that it was going into update mode what would "take some time." My nurse practitioner had already been by to see me. It was not stacking up to be a GREAT day.
"Momma, just hold me for a minute. Listen to my heart. I know you get impatient sometimes. With your health. With the weather. With seeing signs that you ARE making a difference. Ssshhh. No talking. Just breathe with me." I closed my eyes and leaned into her furs. It was just WD and me outside of time and transported to a bubble that was warm and soothing.
I don't know how she did it. We stayed together for what seemed a long time. When I opened my eyes and looked, Zsofia and Bailey had joined us on the bed. Opal and Bella curled at my feet. Roman rested calmly on the floor at the foot of the bed, and Tiz and Pearl stood in the doorway. They were all watching us. I could not help but smile.
"What would I do without an Army to hold me together?" I asked them...and to White Dog I added, "What would I do without you Little White Dog of My Heart? You share my soul."
Suddenly everything did not seem so insurmountable or frustrating. "Thank you," I said as I kissed every head (even Pearl's).
