White Dog said, "At least he did not hurt himself." And she was right, for that we were all VERY grateful and also glad that he did not jump through and go running.
I soothed Roman's face. "Baby Boy, you get TOO wound up. We have not even gotten new blinds to replace the ones you tore through and now this..."
Steve was out on the front landing sweeping up glass, pulling out broken shards, and taping plastic over the window.
At some point in the afternoon Roman hyper-reacted to someone at the door and broke out the window. Fortunately we believe that it was Roman's attack on the blinds that pushed the wood window treatment through the glass and that Our Boy's paws and feet did not make contact. It was likely the whole thing startled Roman enough that he jumped down and avoided the chair the rest of the afternoon. In thinking about it, I wondered if it happened right before there was a pack exodus out into the yard.
When Steve came back in from the front, he secured a baby gate across the inside of the window. "At least we have some layers of protection," he said hopefully.
We discussed moving the chair from the window but Roman is long enough that when he stands on his hind leg, he easily is taller than the windowsill. So that does not seem like a solution. Tomorrow we will call the glass repair service and hope someone will come out over the weekend.
"Roman," I say to him, "you could have been hurt. Remember, the wall and locked doors and closed windows all are there to HELP you keep the house and all of us safe and secure. Sound an alarm if you must but let's let the other protections do their job as well."

Oh gosh, that's so scary! We are really glad that Roman did not get hurt.
