White Dog came in at breakfast. "Be sure to get everything you need," she said. "The Army, dad and I are going to be quite busy all afternoon putting your birthday gift in place."

I knew what their plan was, we had already talked about it and I agreed that I would not see until all was final and in place.

So all day, right up until dinner time, the team moved all of the furniture out, cut apart the old, toted the pieces out to the trash, swept up and scrubbed the floor, layed the new and returned the furniture.

They crowded into the bedroom where I worked. "It is time. Come see." I transferred into my wheelchair and wheeled out.

"Oh my dog! It is just wonderful!"

Long ago before Siku we bought a lovely Persian rug that at the time was an extravagance. It has been a comfort but time, and an Army of pups had taken its toll. Zsofia had cut her teeth here and here. Tizenegy...and Sachi had marked this spot and that. The beautiful color had faded and the threads worn by a bazillion shampooings for all manner of reasons. It was time.

So here is to new memories and new times. The Persians I have been told simply piled new carpets over old to create thick comfortable nests. In our lives that tradition is not possible. We sent the old off in WDA fashion...with a duck jerky toast and song of gratitude.

This is the new look:
Momma is a  Very happy pre-birthday girl.
