Everyone had already been locked out of the kitchen for being dangerously underfoot as Steve attempted to make dinners. And now they were all squished against the gate jockeying and squealing and pushing.
Crowded tightly Tiz's spin to move backward sent Bella tumbling into Opal who lost her footing and stepped on Bella's head. Bella's "yelp" brought Bailey into the tangle and she pushed White Dog into the foot stool.
White Dog's shocked "HEY!" got everyone looking for escape routes. It was too much action in too little space and tempers flared.
The only one outside of the scene was Roman, who was safely on the other side of the gate lying in the pantry watching Steve.
I purposely lowered my voice to nearly a whisper. I found that often gets more attention than yelling. "If we cannot be civilized and wait for dinner with manners then I am going to ask Dad to stop preparation until you can. You just had jerky and sampled the veggies I chopped so I am certain no pup is cramping from hunger. So what is it going to be?"
"MUCH better. Thank you."
