White Dog, Tizenegy, and Bella have, like their momma, all reached a point where mobility is a concern. What was once an easy way to clean up dust bunnies and to show off the lovely hardwood floors of our 1940's era home...going rugless...has become a slipping hazard. We have tried all manner of devices from toenail grips, to booties, to support braces but the stress each adds to the wearer seems unacceptably large.
So we have taken the low-tech approach of relying on skid-proof padded throw rugs. The area just outside the kitchen gate, when the WDA congregates was an uncovered expanse that flowed over the gate threshold and a couple of feet into the kitchen where a runner then takes over. In the push and shove of racing to dinner positions poor Tizenegy and sometimes White Dog get toppled and have a difficult time scrambling back to all fours in the melee.
The solution? A thick shag area carpet that fills the space and will tuck under the couch and "dad" chair as anchors. Bailey helped Steve unroll the addition and volunteered to be photographed helping to flatten the curves. "That way," she explained, "no pup would be embarrassed being the poster dog for this mobility aid." Our Blue-Eyed Girl is very thoughtful and sensitive.
