White Dog nodded approvingly as she walked with Tizenegy in the yard. Our grumpy old man is much less grumpy as a result of the adequan injections he received. Given as a series of eight injections given two per week for four weeks, and then repeated (if needed again in six months).
Adequan Canine (for dogs) is used to control symptoms associated with degenerative or traumatic arthritis. It is an injectable polysulfated glycosaminoglycan (PSGAG) and is the only FDA approved product of its type. We first learned about it when CA Stormer's vet suggested it for his failing back legs. It had a different dosing then and was not as effective as the new protocol is for Tiz.
While he stills wears his quick lift harness as a backup, Tizenegy is walking better, keeping on his feet when challenged by change of terrain. He nimbly jumps over the gate threshold that once caught him up several times a week and sent him sprawling. Tiz is sturdy enough to hip check his way past his bigger Sibe sisters to get to his dinner bowl. And he manages the outdoor ramp from deck to ground without a stumble...up OR down.
The best part, the entire WDA agrees, is that the treatment has removed the pain that plagued him and as a result has brought more smiles and more time spent with the pack.
