White Dog saw Dr. Julia today for her monthly followup on her pancreatic cyst. This had been a good month with very little drainage required but these days every visit to our vet causes anxiety in My Girl. She did however have an ear infection which was immediately treated..

In a hands-on diagnostic way, White Dog's trembling proved to be a good thing. Just a few nights ago, we discovered that massaging WD's feet during a panic attack calmed her; we have added this to our toolkit. Independently, Rosie, Dr. Julia's surgical nurse, made the same discovery.

Our wonderful vet team took the "Eureka!" one step further thinking about the calming magic of thundershirts and weighted blankets. Rosie wrapped each of White Dog's paws gently but firmly in sports wrap. White Dog stopped shaking and relaxed. She remained soothed during her entire exam. Dr. Julia is convinced we are on to something that may prove helpful to fight anxiety.

"We are going to leave her paws wrapped. Maybe try newborn-size baby socks to see if they work. It might be she needs the compression but we will not know until we try. I would rather calm her this way than giving her more drugs. Let's see her again in two weeks to check on the ear and for a progress report."

Baby socks are on the way, along with rolls of sports wrap in case they are needed. White Dog has never been much for deessing up but the paw wraps seem to be stabilizing. Or maybe it was the mango chicken with coconut ice cream for dinner dessert that did the trick. "She DID, after all, do ALL day without eating," Zsofia reminded. "We should ALL share so White Dog is not embarrassed by eating in front of us."

Wonderful to hear such good news! Tell White Dog that the wraps make her feet look graceful and delicate. Much like ballet wraps.
