White Dog asked to spend some time out of doors. "It is a nice day," she told Steve. "If you put my mattress out in the yard I could soak up some of that bone-warming heat, sniff the airs, and have a bit of change in scenery. You could bring your laptop and review those documents while getting out of the office and sitting in the shade."

Every pup thought it was a marvelous idea...and so did Steve. Gear was assembled, White Dogs trouped out of the dog door. Chairs and beds were set up.

A very short time later, about twenty minutes by my computer clock, I heard the back door slam and saw a parade of White Dogs coming IN through the dog door. Bailey stopped in front of me to sneeze and Roman gulped water from the bowl across from me.

"Back inside already?" I said. "Hardly seems like an afternoon of fresh air and the great outdoors." Steve stood in the doorway to the bedroom holding White Dog. "The air quality is terrible. There is so much smokey haze that you cannot even see the mountains. My eyes are burning and poor WD is all teared up. It is hard to breathe. I thought we were better off inside where the air is a bit more filtered."

Darn that poor air quality. It certainly sounded like a great idea at first.
