White Dog sat next to Steve, Zso and Bailey prowled the yard, Opal rested just outside the dog door. They werer all on the deck at Roman's suggestion to watch the stars and bid farewell to Summer, 2021.

"Well, it was better than 2020," White Dog shared. "I feel that things are trying very hard to get better in the world and that gives me hope."

Zsofia loped up and responded. "Humans can be their own worst enemies. They compete when they should cooperate and so many seem just plain broken." "Yep," Roman agreed. "Why DON'T they just listen to us dogs? It is like we are telling them the answer to the toughest questions but they REFUSE to listen."

From ground level came Bailey's voice. "The stars are amazing tonight. Each one is beautiful and twinkling; altogether the night sky is like a beautiful black velvet blanket sprinkled with jewels."

Opal stood and turned to go inside. "A blanket is a good idea. It is starting to get cool in the evenings." "It is hard to believe, but tomorrow is the beginning of Autumn," White Dog said. "Let's go in and warm up with a bit of warm apple cake and whipped cream; we can include momma that way."
