White Dog had the White Dog Army all primed and lined up. "I told them that we were going to do a taste test on a very special company, one that shares our views on the planet."
There is a treat company out of Chicago that claims to upcycle to produce their treats. They "rescue" vegggies and fruits that are rejected by groceries because of their looks or blemishes.
In the USA alone over 63 million tons of food gets tossed every year! And global food waste accounts for 8% of greenhouse gas emissions. We try to be conscious of our waste and our global foot/paw print.
So they take this unloved produce and turn it into supercharged, all natural, grain-free treats that make your pup (or kitty) a superhero in helping alleviate big problems on the planet. At least 35% of each formula is made from upcycled ingredients. To date 513,719 pounds of food has been saved. And THAT makes momma happy!
"Great, momma, but all of that happy Earth stuff means nothing if it tastes like boiled rutabage and nori," Zsofia said what the Army was all thinking. "Let's get to the bottom line...taste!"
The White Dog Army tried three flavors. Blueberried Treasure (blueberries and mint) was first. The soft cookie is a 1.5" heart that easily breaks in half and includes mint to freshen doggie breath. These WERE treasures and everyone had to be reminded that there were other flavors to sample.
Next up was the Pumpkin Nut Partay Cookies (pumpkin and peanut butter flavor). The WDA did not seem to care much that these were good for digestion; the response for these was wild. Again, cookies are soft enough that even White Dog can sink her teeth into them. No one was happy with my dividing treats for a third go-round but we still had one more to taste.
And as I reminded, "this is a snack not dinner." Not one white dog understood the wine sampling method of sampling in the mouth then discarding, not swallowing.
Carrate Chomp (carrot and salmon oil) Dental Chews are ridged to help clean teeth. The 6" sticks are easily snapped as small as quarter lengths (don't ask how I know, meanie that I am). These were too hard for WD but the others would happily have eaten all eight sticks.
Momma likes the sustainable cleanly resourced ingredients made in America but most important, they are affordable treats that the WDA likes.
So, shamelessly the WDA gives 20 paws up to these yummy, pup- and earth-healthy treats.
