February 3, 2022

Little did I expect on this very cold (twenty-something degrees), post-snowy day that something deep inside of myself would crack... and I would become my mother.

Growing up I made a whole list of things mom said all of the time that I vowed would NEVER fall from MY lips. The exchanges with the White Dog Army across the day were my mother's spirit driving home a lesson about "never saying never."

"In or out Zsofia, stop standing with the dog flap open. It is cold."

"Opal! How long does it take one little dog to come inside? You don't have to hold the door open for your brother; he is still in the yard!"

"How many times do I have to say it today? In or out, you are letting the heat escape."

"Bai, cold air! You are letting in the cold air."

"Diva, do NOT play the in and out game today. PLEASE!"
