White Dog and I learned that in ink drawings and paintings done centuries ago by Zen monks that a white dog was often a representation of Buddha, an expression of pure goodness and compassion. White Dog drew upon her inner strength to keep her hubris in check at this revelation. We are reading DOG MAN by Martha Sherrill which recounts one Japanese mountain man's efforts to restore the Akita breed after WWII, when only 12 dogs remained!

White Dog - the monks got it right! You DO represent pure goodness, and we are all the better because of our precious eskies!

akita's huh? They're pretty looking, but we don't care for their personalities. They are mean!

I hope you like the book though, and that's it's great!
