White Dog and I watched part of the telethon last night for relief for Haiti. As we lay cuddled together in our comfortable, warm house witnessing the horror and suffering that is on-going in that country we were forced to recognize our incredible good fortune that places us in a land of plenty, wrapped in safety, couched in an abundance of life's essentials. We talked about what wasn't shown...the hundreds, maybe thousands of family pets lost in the rubble, starving on the streets, or dead under debris; no money or resources exist for these victims. People who will never know where--or if-- a loved one is buried because bodies are interred in mass graves and no records exist. Babies who have no names or family who now live in makeshift tent villages. Relief pours in from all over the world, but the disaster cannot be undone...nor can its next wave of death from disease be totally averted. This hellish environment will take time to build over into something better and it won't just happen. White Dog and I wept at what we saw. We truly hope that collectively the world has the heart and the compassion to set aside politics and make a difference. Please join us in this prayer.

So perfectly put. My family and I watched a bit of the telethon last night, and we all talked about how terribly sad it is for the animals too. How scared they, and everyone, must be. Unimaginable.

Very well put. We saw an article today about all the homeless pets there. It is a situation that is just beyond belief, beyond sadness. It will be a very long time before things will be any better there. We pray for a miracle.

hey Siku Marie,

Thank you for pawing this post. I wish more could be done for the pets and animals. It saddens me to no end. My human does not have a TV so I am not too familiar with what is going on, but I do hope the money actually gets to where it needs to go because from what little I have been told, supplies, food, water, and money do not always end up where they are supposed to, as we learned from the horrors of Katrina.

We pray for goodness and help for all of Haiti.

Peace,

Suka

Sigh. Big sigh.

What you've penned has wrenched our gut and made us once again realize and reflect. It seems almost disrespectful of the people and animals of Haiti to offer words any less powerful - and true - than what you've just said. We hope in some small way, we can each help to make a microscopic difference. Sometimes that seems impossible. But we still hope for it.

So sad.
