White Dog holds party manners in high regard; to her a two- or four-legged person's politeness says a great deal about his or her caliber. In part that is why White Dog gets so upset at Quinn's atrocious manners (in part, to be fair, it is also because she worries that he will get "something" without earning it as she must). I heard White Dog "woof" a warning to Quinn before she came rushing in to tattle on him, but he did not take her advice. When I followed the prancing girl (who kept looking back to make sure I was not going to miss the bust) to the kitchen we both discovered Quinn, standing on hind legs, giraffe-necking to reach the marinading roast. I cleared my throat. He looked over disinterestedly. White Dog told him to get down and he ignored her. "Quinn, NO! Get off the counter!" I sternly commanded. He got off the counter but as we turned to walk away, he resumed his "surfing." "Momma said NO!" I repeated pushing him off and away. White Dog barked him out of the kitchen and out the dog door. I moved the roast to higher ground to remove temptation. "Thank dog, he starts school tomorrow," White Dog sighed, shaking her head.

Ummm. Just so you know. Our auntie Judith had an Irish setter that 1. knew how to open the refrigerator and get out roasts, and 2. knew how to walk to the neighborhood grocery store, walk through the automatic doors, stroll to the meat counter, and grab hams. Routinely. The store employees knew her by name. Maybe she shoud've gone to school. But she felt like she was already pretty smart.

Oh, the good ol' days!

Ohhhh boy quinn. Those are not good manners. However, if ben could reach, he'd probably do some surfing too.

Oh this is such a telling story - Quinn the newbie not knowing the right way to act, Siku the pro. And oh my her manners are just so beautiful to read about. I have never heard of such a well mannered dog - I know they are out there but it is nice to actually hear about it. Not that all dogs have bad manners - most that have had the opportunity are fairly good. But Siku - seriously I know one day I will be reading about her letting you know that Timmy has fallen in the well!

Oh boy, Quinn has learned to counter surf! Hana learned that from her niece Happy! Hana would do that all the time at Happy's house.

Hey Siku, wwill you share your wisdom with me on how you will teach your brother party manners? We have a "counter surfer" with foster dog Atka too, and I not only give her fair warning, I bark and bark, all to no avail! I'm almost at my leash end!! Maybe Jessie will have some good fortune with your brother!!

Love,
Prinnie

White Dog - thank you for all your help. We will make our goal just cause of all your efforts and pawsativeness.
My peeps once had a dog named Rebel. He could open a side by side fridge and help himself. Rebel could jump the fence, tour the neighborhood and then return home to ring the front door to come in. - He drove the peeps mad, they miss him with all their hearts.
