October 22, 2010

White Dog and I snuggled closer under the blanket; it was cold, darn cold. We stalled about getting out of bed, trapping the warmth, feeling our cold noses, and wondering why on earth Quinn was standing out on the deck in the chill morning air, head back, watching his breath rise above him. "No doubt about it, Little One," I mumbled. "The time has come to close the windows at night!' "And maybe until March, knowing you" White Dog added as she kindly pressed closer sharing her body heat.

The Other White Dog was not happy when he was denied his post breakfast nap on the front porch because I refused to keep the door open for him. He repeatedly returned to the shut door, pushed it with his nose and looked pointedly at me as I sat with a lap blanket wrapped around my legs and bare feet. "Sorry Buddy," I apologized, "but for the rest of the year you might have to just use the back deck if you feel the need to nap al fresco."

All afternoon we watched storm clouds gather on the mountains and knew that the season's first snow was expected there. Tonight Steve did a test run of the furnace in anticipation of the temps chilling the house enough to force it to kick on. The windows are all shut and tomorrow I plan to dig my sweaters out of storage.

It seems the summer into autumn transition is complete (rather late, actually). Now in the mornings after Steve leaves for work, I will rely on my "pack" for more than just the joy of cuddling, I will encourage WD to sit on my shoulder and TOWD at my feet for their deliciously soft and warm double coats!

Hi Everyone - it's cool and rainy here in Northern California and a nice change. The flannel sheets and extra quilts are on the bed and the heated mattress pad is turned on tonight.

We hope you all stay warm and cozy. Have a great weekend.

Hugs and yips,
Cappy and Ollie

hey Siku Marie and Quinn,

Ahhhh...cold weather! It's about time! But I understand that you two pups prefer the warm seasons, and I think it is great you can hop on the bed to keep your mom and yourselves all toasty warm!

Stay warm and cozy!

We had an overnight transition - Monday it was 100 degrees and by Wednesday it dropped to 80. I'm having trouble adjusting!

We all miss having the front and back doors open to let the nice breeze pass through. Soon the doors will have to close here too. Today we have humidity and storms in the area but the cooler temps will be back soon.

Have a great weekend.

Hi Siku Marie, thanks for visiting me on Halloween Spooktacular. You remind me so much of our neighbour across the street, Pepper, who is also an American Eskimo dog and a rescued one. She has a great home now.

The nights are also getting much cooler here in eastern Canada. Days are still lovely though.

purrs,
Mindy
