White Dog looked at Steve, confused. "It's Saturday!" he announced. "Ahhh, no dad, it is Friday and you better get ready for work!" "Nope, it's Saturday!" White Dog called the rest of the Army around where she and Steve were sitting on the floor. "Tell him," she commanded.

Before things got too far out of control, Steve explained. "Friday is the new Saturday." I looked at him with a "do you REALLY think that is less confusing" look and said to the White Ones. ""The new quarter has started and dad is teaching on Saturdays so instead he has Fridays off. Our weekends will be on Friday and Sunday, not two days in a row." Everyone nodded but I am not sure the calendar significance was important.

What was important was Steve saying, "We have all day together. Who wants to ride with to run errands?" There was a stampede to the door that blocked Steve from exiting yet no one wanted to step back to give him room lest they lose their position. YoYoMa figured out Steve was going no where without me so he shrewdly gave up his place to come and sit next to me in the living room as Steve was finally able to shepherd the group toward the car.

We stopped to pick up gift cards for the Walk at our favorite local coffee place...and left cards announcing the Walk...and shared almond cheese croissants (and coffee for Steve, YoYo, and I). Although down to our last few posters and about 75 cards we made a point of stopping at random pet related places (groomers, small vet clinics, etc.) that we passed to make a last ditch push for Walkers. We picked up a basket of pup treats that a local cleaning service had donated as a prize...Puff volunteered to watch over it as she stared, sniffing, into the cargo hold beyond the back seat.

Our "Saturday" was grand because most folks were at work and everyplace we wanted to go was crowd free. The Park was deserted...delightfully so in the WDA's opinion...as they took turns walking with Steve and sitting in the grass with me. Quinn found a freshly planted bed of mums by the tennis courts and we thought about Hansel's mom who loves to photograph flowers...today is her birthday... we sent White Dog Army wishes of happiness floating through the clear blue perfect skies toward Maryland, where she lives.

White Dog suggested a car picnic for late lunch with noshes from a great little place that makes its own WARM fresh potato chips to accompany its sandwiches. Clever leader that she is, she reasoned that they would also be a good place to leave cards about the Walk to end cancer. "Two birds with one stone," she said warning her sisters off of any bird hunting notions. "Lunch for a hungry Army AND reaching more people." We couldn't argue, and we, too, were thinking about those warm chips, so a car picnic it was.

"Does this Saturday stuff mean movie night is moved to the new Saturday?" Nuka asked. "Why not." was Steve's response. So after dinner everyone headed for the bedroom and got comfy around the television. They are waiting for me now...or maybe for the popcorn I smell Steve making in the microwave. To all of you not on the special White Dog Army calendar, Have a wonderful Saturday!

Homemade potato chips sound super yummy! The day of the week doesn't matter as long as everyone is together.
