January 3, 2012

White Dog and the White Dog Army nearly convinced themselves that the holiday was going to continue. White Dog and Quinn went with Steve to run errands in the morning. Puff got a slow gentle brushing out (which she loves).  Nuka and YoYoMa shared Steve's breakfast. The morning passed and there was no movement to the closet and dress clothes.

On his late nights, Steve doesn't go into school until nearly 1:30pm, so we do enjoy the pleasures of all being together deeply into the day. Just as the White Ones were lulled into thinking maybe a trip to the Park might be a good suggestion, Steve started his transformation into Outside World Human. He was not any keener about leaving and there was much stalling all around as water dishes were refreshed, and cuddles were given, and toys were brought for tug games.

When reality could be avoided no longer, the White Dog Army crowded around the door, first begging to go with, then demanding rounds of "see you later" pats, and finally staring sadly at the empty doorway. I tried not to be hurt as the entire Army ignored me and dejectedly curled up with sighs.

All evening everyone has been well behaved, too well behaved in fact, listless and sad and checking out of  the window and door frequently. Every car driving by has caused heads to raise.

Steve just called to announce he is on his way home. That is my signal to warm the lentil soup. At the phone's ring, the White Dogs surrounded me and when I told them that "Dad was on his way home," every one scurried to the front door where they are sitting or pacing awaiting the sound of Steve's return.

I am grateful that tempers did not flair or frustrations build, but I hope tomorrow finds the WDA less resigned and depressed about the schedule. When the White Ones are not happy, no one is happy...and today there was no joy in Mudville!

hey White Dog Army,

Sorry you had a bad day, but it seems you handled the transition fairly well. It will get easier as the days go by, and then before you know it, another vacation and days with the family all together again!

Cheer up, and have fun today!

One day at a time. I know I don’t like it when MOM has a different schedule. But her schedule is never the same. Over the years I think I’ve gotten use to it, but it is never easy. But oh the joy when I see her again.
Blessings,
Goose

It's always difficult to get back into the swing of things, isn't it? Here's hoping that tomorrow is better, and the next day is even better! :)
