White Dog and The White Dog Army

White Dog and the White Dog Army miss out on the excitement that many get when their doorbells begin to ring nonstop announcing Trick-or-Treaters. While they love seeing the children all dressed up, the neighborhood we live in is made up of mostly couples with no children, those whose children have grown and moved away, or college students so we generally get a handful of kids at best.

But we discovered one special young Halloween Superhero who deserves LOTS of treats and no tricks. Even though Nico Castro is only six, he is battling brain cancer. While that in itself makes the young man an awesome Warrior, it is his Halloween Project that makes him a Superhero.

After his doctor gave him the green light to go trick-or-treating thanks to a break in his chemotherapy, he began worrying about the other kids in the cancer ward who remain confined to beds.

“I was sad they wouldn’t have candy (or costumes),” Nico explained.

His parents were moved by his thoughtfulness but financially unable to buy costumes for the 50 sick kids, due to the financial burden brought on by their son's diagnosis.

So in true superhero fashion, Nico started a costume drive.

“We were so surprised from the support outside of our community," said his father. "Packages of costumes are coming from Pennsylvania, Illinois and Texas.”
