November 12, 2012

White Dog came dashing back in with Nuka hot on her heels to complain about the early morning temperatures.  As I chided her about her Northern breed double-coated heritage, Puff came in and announced the water in the outside bowl was iced over. “Just how cold IS it?” I groggily asked Steve who was zipping up his running jacket and gathering up YoYoMa. “Twenty-six,” was his answer. Suddenly I felt chilled and invited WD back to bed to snuggle as the other girls joined Oso and cuddled together. Quinn thankfully seems to sleep better on cold nights and was still zonked out.

With a projected high of only 47 degrees F none of the White Dog Army was inclined to want to make outdoor plans. When Steve and YAWD came home from their brisk constitutional, YoYoMa crawled back into his sleeping spot and curled up in a ball. “Have I mentioned I HATE Mondays,” White Dog grumbled from her nest deep in the covers next to me, “too cold to move, dad’s late night, VEGETABLE soup for dinner…” “It is homemade,” I purred into her ear, “and besides the Army gets its normal hearty mackerel meal at its normal time.” She burrowed deeper.

Later, Steve reluctantly agreed with WD's assessment of Monday. This afternoon when he went out to leave for class, he discovered that someone had gotten into the van. Fortunately no windows were broken and nothing seems missing but the contents of the glove box were scattered all over the floor and passenger seat. Our guess is that Steve forgot to lock the car and late evening on Sunday we had an intruder. At that time we recall that the WDA came to full alert and barked (scaring off the would-be thief, we guess); we casually thought the reason for the brkfest was the neighbor’s daughter who frequently stands on the side of her house by our driveway driving the White ones crazy while she argues on her cell phone with her boyfriend. “It could have been a lot worse,” I consoled Steve when he came back in to share the news. But it is a bit unnerving to know we came so close. Keeping Michael from over-reacting has been difficult and he has locked himself out of the house three times today in his attempts to keep us safe.

Not the best start to the week but as Quinn pointed out, maybe we have gotten the worst out of the way and the rest will be clear sailing.

On a more hopeful note, Mayzie http://mayziegal.wordpress.com has announced "Wag N' Swag: a Fundraiser for Sandy Pets." They have chosen three deserving LOCAL no-kill shelters/rescues that have been on the front lines of the efforts to help displaced pets. And having personally done work with several small rescues, I know that every dollar counts, especially in a time like this.

Please check out "WAG n' SWAG" a terrific fundraiser, sponsored by Mazyiegal ... it's easy to donate to help out ... and you could even win a fabulous prize! Today through Saturday, November 12 to 17 ...just CLICK THE LINK... and it will give you all the de-tails and direct you to donation links.

There are so, so many displaced, abandoned and lost woofies and kitties all over the northeast region ... we all need to do our part in helping them. We applaud Maize’s family’s efforts…let’s all show our support for those in need.

On final thing, please go by Ginger Jasper's blog and leave some words of congratulations to celebrate his 1000th Post! It is quite a milestone and his mum is holding a commnetathon for the next two days with the earnings going to two very special causes. If you are not familiar with them click through on our sidebar and get to know them; the orange mancat and his family are wonderful friends!

We are loving the colder temps. We never think of NM as getting that cold.

Mom says that break-in to the van would be very unnerving to her too. We are glad it was just a bit of rummaging and no harm or damage occurred.

We aren't Monday fans either. And your weather sounds a little too cold for our liking! Glad you all got to snuggle in to keep warm, though ... that is always nice. Scary about the van intruder, but happy that nothing was taken.

We will head over to the fundraiser, and to wish GJ a happy 1000th post. Both wonderful things, for sure.

Hugs to you all.
