White Dog and The White Dog Army
Wonderful World Wednesday

White Dog and the White Dog Army are, for obvious reasons, forceful advocates for disabled and senior pets. They champion tirelessly for those looking for a fur companion to consider giving a second chance to dogs and cats who have experienced life’s hardships and who would be most grateful for security and love and a family. We know and say it loudly that these souls have much to offer and add much to the gentle acceptance that the world so desperately needs.

During the holidays it is so important for us to get the word out to “Adopt. Don’t Shop” as many families bring four-leggeds to their lives as gifts. (The timing and the idea of live animals being gifts are a another difficult topic but the truth is that Christmas often means “new puppy.”) Adopted dogs, and cats--senior, disabled, big, black or quiet—all have something special and enriching to contribute…and sometimes even more…

We offer these views of two unwanted “loser” dogs, both rescues, given a second chance, who proved to be  true champions and heroes…and the stuff that makes the world sparkle in wonder! Who doesn't dream of a best friend whose love knows no bounds (even his own life)?

Blind, Deaf, 3-legged Dog Saves Family from Fire
Good New Network, November 24, 2012

The blind and deaf dog with three legs earned his family’s gratitude this week after their log home in Oklahoma was destroyed. The couple escaped in time with their new baby and faithful pet.

A disabled dachshund, True, adopted by a family when no one else wanted him, alerted the household to a raging fire. In the early morning hours True woke the family with his barking and howling and insistence that they get up. "I thought he needed to go out, but when I opened the front door there was a wall of fire." Through the thick smoke, led by True's continued barking, the family made it's way to the back of the house and out of the kitchen door.

Heroic Geo the German Shepherd Puppy Pushed Boy Out of Path of Out-of-Control Truck and Took Impact Himself
By Harriet Arkell The Daily Mail On-line November 26, 2012

Eight-month-old Geo has been hailed a hero by his adoring family after he averted tragedy on a family walk in Clacton-on-Sea, Essex. Carly Riley and her three sons Charlie, 10, Josh, 7, and Ben, 4, were walking along Burrs Road in the town when the accident happened.

As they waited at the corner to cross, an out-of-control truck careened onto the pavement, heading straight for Charlie. Mrs. Riley says, “Geo must have sensed it as he lept on Charlie and took him out of the way. It could have wiped us all out. If it wasn’t for Geo I am 100 percetn sure it would’ve been Charlie.”  Mrs. Riley and her husband reported the hit-and-run to the police.

Geo, a German Shepherd-Collie mix, suffered a broken leg, fractured spine, and severe bruising in the accident. He endured five hours of surgery during which two metal plates were inserted in his leg.  It is too early to tell if Geo’s recovery will be fully successful.

Help spread the word. There are pets in shelters and rescues to fit every “wish list.” They would love to celebrate the holidays in a new home and join a new forever family knowing It’s A Wonderful Life.
