White Dog
and The White Dog Army
Wonderful
World Wednesday
White Dog
and the rest of the Army know first-paw the power of a small gesture in making
a difference to another person. Thousands and thousands of times a day a
cheerful smile or a squeeze on the shoulder or adding in the change necessary
to finish a purchase on the person in line at the grocery who comes up short
makes the world brighter, better, more wonderful.
At White Dog
Ranch we love the saying “No one can do everything, but every one can do
something to make a difference.” Things that seem insignificant and that we
instantly forget about, have a ripple effect of positivity and produce joy.
These are the deeds that truly hold despair and darkness at bay.
Tonight we
have chosen a sweet simple story where the kindness of strangers introduced
happiness into a ward full of children fighting the c monster, pushing aside
their need to be brave Warriors long enough to have a spontaneous celebration of normal childhood.
It is the simple things…
Social Media Delivers on Cancer Patient's Plea for
Pizza Party
By Good News Network Tuesday, July 16, 2013
When your two year-old is in the hospital battling childhood
cancer, you do whatever crazy thing will help keep their spirits up. Young
“Hazelnut," as she's known to friends and family, is currently in the
midst of an 18-month-long treatment period at the Children’s Hospital in Los
Angeles. She was diagnosed with a high-risk, stage 3 neuroblastoma in April, at
which point her parents started a blog called Our Little
Hazelnut to document her journey.
Lauren, the particularly creative mother of little Hazel
Hammersley, used medical tape on the window to form giant letters: SEND PIZZA
RM 4112.
After a couple days passed, the fourth floor pediatric
cancer ward was suddenly abuzz with the smell of pizzas. Several deliveries
arrived after someone had captured a photo of their message from the sidewalk
and posted it to Reddit.com. Hazel and other tiny cancer patients had a grand
time chowing down together on the hospital bed. Nurses turned on some music and
joined in for a grand pizza party.
"As of yesterday evening, there was more than 20 boxes
delivered and more was coming!" wrote Lauren on her family's blog, Our Little Hazelnut, where she posted more photos. "We
had such a great time!"
Dozens more pies were delivered to Children's Hospital Los
Angeles before the facility had to tell the media to say, 'Please no more,' to
the kind strangers.
"We have been absolutely humbled and surprised by the
outpouring of love and support from the online community and can only hope and
pray that this brings awareness to neuroblastoma and the childhood cancer
community," wrote Lauren, who started a Facebook page called, Hope for
Hannah, which picked up thousands of fans since the pizza party.
