White Dog, YoYoMa and Puff were getting nervous. First, there was all kinds of banging and clanging and strange noises early this morning coming from famous Route 66 just  one-half block from our home. Then they heard bands tuning up and a PA system being tested. Then LOTS of strangers started parking on our street and walking down our block.

"Don't worry, White Ones, it is just the Nob Hill Summerfest Street Fair," I explained. "Remember dad and I took you down to see it last year? You enjoyed the smells and the attention but you were not so fond of all the noise and the huge crowds." Michael, of course was VERY excited by the prospect of going to the fair and spending his savings enjoying the carnival like festivities.

Unfortunately the White Dog Army was to be on their own to weather this break from routine...it was the second to last opera night in the season. We did what we could to lessen the intrusion...shut the blinds...left soft Enya music playing...and made sure every pup knew he or she would be safe.

It was La Traviata and was well done. But I must admit by Violetta's death scene that I was wishing she would expire a bit faster so I could get home to the WDA. The thought of the carnival and crowds pulsing around our home left me worried for the White Ones' stress levels.

We arrived home to every one waiting, including Michael. He had a great time at Summerfest but said the dogs had been nervous...so he had closed all of the doors and windows. It was quite warm in the house and as Steve went around reopening our portals I reassured all that at this hour (nearly 1am) the people had all gone home and the fair was deserted.

To ease White Dog stress I slowly unzipped our little red cooler bag. "Guess what we brought home from our picnic," I teased and lifted the back up away from sniffing noses. Tails started to wag and the Army lined up in treat formation in front of me.

"Who guessed pate?" Steve called from the kitchen and White Dog was on her feet in excitement. "What is with the others?" Steve asked. "Remember they did not grow up children of privilege. Watch!" I turned to face Nuka, and Quinn, and YoYoMa, Puff, and Oso. I held out the bag.

"Who wants LIVER SAUSAGE?" The WDA erupted in a song of "Me! Me! Me! Me! and don't forget Me!"

Aww fairs can be so much fun. But I understand being scared of the noise.
