White Dog was hopping mad. It is not often that my wise and level-headed girl loses her cool, but she left no doubt as to her emotional state. "How could you, momma?" she wailed. "This blog is one of the most important things we do together. How could you have missed this?"

I already feel awful and knowing how disappointed she was made me even sadder. This is our 3011th post, which means I totally missed the milestone...an unarguably huge one...of our 3000th message to the world. The Little White Dog of My Heart expected hoopla and celebration and a shining spotlight and instead the day came and went without so much as a notice.

This is White Dog's blog. We began it shortly after she came to live with us at 8 weeks of age, nearly nine years ago. She has grown from an adorable ball of floof with a mind of her own into an elegant, compassionate, leader of an Army of those unwanted anywhere else. And it has all happened within these posts, captured originally as a writing exercise in chronicling her life and becoming a love letter of sharing to our Blog family.

Over the course of these 3000 posts we have grown up. We have found a cause we fight passionately for. We have found a voice. We have celebrated joyously and have wept with grief so deep we thought the tears would never stop. You know our favorite haunts, the things we like to do, our quirks and the things that fill us with wonder. We have flexed and changed and evolved to fit the changing demands of life and you have been there to witness and encourage.

Jesse, White Dog's trainer when she was a young pup, will never let us forget Steve's confident pronouncement earlier on in WD's training that she was to be a very spoiled only child like he was. She laughs as she strokes my girl and says, "You are the biggest one dog family I have ever met!" The White Dog Army was not a plan...at least not ours...but you were at our side as each member found his and her way to us and we somehow managed to integrate into an amazing pack. Your advice and insight gave us courage to listen to our hearts...and it continues to keep us in balance so very often.

I know this is not the post White Dog envisioned to celebrate the milestone of 3000, but two things we have learned from this community is that Life very seldom unfolds according to our vision and that living in the right now is the only thing we can count on.

So although White Dog snorts that it is a cop out on my part, i tell her that 3011 is no less impressive than 3000. I tell her that we need to value our time at blogging not in the number of posts but rather in the enrichment to our lives. The miracle, I tell her, is the gift of a continuing story to share and loving listeners who across the days, months, years, continue to care.

Then I hold her in my arms and whisper. "Siku Marie, we are so blessed." And I thank her because without
her, there would have been no White Dog Diaries, no 3011 posts, no opportunity to be a part of such an amazing world of two- and four-leggeds.

I look up to the faces of the entire White Dog Army surrounding us. "So, when does the celebration begin," they ask. I reach for the familiar purple bag of duck jerky. "How about right this very moment!" I reply.

What a journey. I remember well when I first met with The gorgeous White dogs blog. It was at a direction from another friend when mum Sue was in hospital. We visited to leave a message and came back each day to see how she was. we shared the ups and downs and stayed to,become friends. A fabulous milestone you have achieved with 3011 posts. I hope to continue following the adventures of the now white dog army. Love and hugs GJ x

So Siku, do you think you might get OVER this? I hope so, because I don't like to think of you so angry, you are too beautiful for that and you have made so many friends over the years who love you. Give some thought to rolling with the punches!

Blessings on your 3,000th post and lots more to come!
