January 11, 2014

White Dog and the rest of the White Dogs have been bathed and treated. All dog bedding and toys and blankets have been washed (much to the overworked exhaustion of our little washer and dryer). Bed linens, changed and waiting for their turn to agitate and spin. Everything sprayed vacuumed and sprayed again.

But I cannot stop the itchy feeling and the suspicious thoughts that wash over me every time I enter a room and sit down...or worse yet LIE down. Although this is a process and it will take several days for the meds to free the White Dogs, I cringe every time I see them scratch or ripple their coats in annoyance.

I could not resist the curiosity and dug out my microscope. Samples are easy enough to collect, scotch tape and then onto a slide. Steve laughed that our office is beginning to look like a mad scientist's lab with Puff's oxygen kennel, my research articles on comparative studies, and now the microscope setup. I found some relief when the first few tries yielded "clean" samples, no mites on the arm of my chair (where While Dog rests) or on the fainting couch. But the common use dog bed on the hearth...YIKES! Went outside after being sprayed liberally and is awaiting its turn in the washer. Steve refused to view the little moving beasties.

Cheyletiella Mites are NOT pretty...this from a woman who actually likes most bugs. I struggled not to direct too much anger at this mindless monster that was causing such a disruption in our home...and misery to our WDA.

I have fought the urge to sample every surface in the house as we continue our eradication attempts. Knowledge can sometimes be too much. I got a message from Steve toward the end of the day (he was at school) simply saying...OMD! Forgot about the VAN!

Sounds like car detailing will be added to the haz mat cleanup efforts. Oh boy.

LOL. I know what you mean. The first time Buchi had mites... scabies... the vet showed it to us through the microscope. It was awful because those creepy crawlies were the same parasites that were staying in our skin and causing the massive itchy trauma.
