White Dog handed me a list as Steve and I got ready to meet friends for brunch this morning. "What's this," I asked. "You are going for dim sum, right? I talked with the Army and these are the tasty bits we want you to bring home. You DO know dim sum means to touch your heart...well, touch us!" Her list included steamed pork buns, shu mai, chinese broccoli, and crunchy chicken with taro root balls. "Oh boy, dad will be thrilled, since you all want chicken feet that means we will actually have to order some!" (They are not among my favorite by a LONG shot even though Steve and the WDA love them).

It was a Sunday for feasting, celebrating the success of our blood drive, and just spending time together on an absolutely beautiful New Mexico Spring day. We enjoyed the contents of the carryout box on the back deck and then played some ball and chase games in the yard. It felt nice to just hide away from the world in our own sanctuary, all together.

It wasn't until almost 7:30 that Steve suggested a light supper might be in order. The process of narrowing down just what we wanted was not an easy one but we finally settled on buckwheat silver dollar sized pancakes with a dollop of sour cream and topped with red American "caviar," part of a Christmas gift assortment given to us for the holidays.

The White Dog Army supper-vised as Steve cooked up pancakes and we plated the yummy sour and salty nosh. Of course, we prepared enough so that each of the White Ones would get two sample bites from Steve and two from me during dinner...provided proper party manners were shown.

Bella, was fascinated with this new delicacy. The others took their bite and practically swallowed it whole, all the while behaving perfectly with no demanding, pushing, or mean faces to the others. Bella held it in her mouth for a moment. then set it down to lick her lips and to sniff. She daintily licked her piece again. Deciding, I think, that she approved of the flavor combination, Tiny White Dog slurped up her piece and then hurried back to dance and twirl as she asked for her second upon which she repeated the discovery process. White Dog looked over at her and laughed, "Didn't get much caviar in Kansas, eh?"
