White Dog and the other White Dogs could not believe their eyes when late in the afternoon the van pulled into the driveway. The White Dog Army had forlornly bid "Hurry Home" to Steve on this his new, second late night; they did not expect to see him until eleven tonight.

What they did not know is that in this quarter's schedule, although Steve must attend meetings in the early afternoon on Thursday, that he has a 2-1/2 hour window between chair tasks and teaching...so he has decided to come home for a break.

"Dad! Today is the first day of Spring!" White Dog announced. "Since you are home can you take us for walks so we can look for flowers and sniff the dirt and leap for butterflies?" "It would be good for you to get outside and enjoy some exercise before you must return to those windowless rooms t teach," Taiko begged as he pressed himself against Steve's legs.

"AND it is the International Day of Happiness," added YoYoMa who is ALWAYS happy to go walking.

Bella came out from under the chair and danced on her hind legs. "Can we have treats after? That would make ME very happy." "We could have a little Spring Celebration Break, dad," Puff agreed. "It would make the time we have to wait for you tonight much easier to bear."

How can you resist an Army of pleading eyes? Steve harnessed up the White Ones and assigned partner positions. Oso and I counted out sweet potato and duck bars and put together a plate of peanut butter cookies for Steve.

After walks and treats and the van had pulled back down the drive, White Dog came and curled up on her place on my chair. "Now I am happy and sleepy," she said yawning. "A little fresh air, a stroll around  the neighborhood, snacks and surprise Dad time, what a great way to usher in my favorite season."

Tai laid down on the floor at my feet. "Dad is going to come home like this every Thursday?" I nodded. "That is simply the best!" He rested his head on his paws and sighed in contentment.

Happy First Day of Spring...may ALL of your days be filled with happiness.

Well, being that we are in dreary Chicago ...not many signs of spring yet, but we are hopeful they are on their way.
