White Dog and the entire White Dog Army were startled when Steve's alarm went off in the wee hours of the morning. "I thought you were done, dad," Sachi yawned as he moved from the foot of the bed to stand on Steve's chest.

"Puff still needs her time in the oxygen kennel," Steve explained. "Besides this is now time for me to do anything I want."

I heard him go into the office and start up the oxygen concentrator. Then he gently woke our little old lady and put her in the kennel (where she promptly falls right back asleep). The others, curious, walked down the hall and joined him.

"Maybe I will start by straightening up a bit," he told them and I heard paper shuffling. Then there was silence. Followed by, "Hey, look what I found. I got this novel for my birthday TWO years ago! I really wanted to read it!"

I heard WD huff air through her cheeks and she let out a yip. "So what's stopping you now?"

"You are right, Little One! But I don't want to read at the desk....Wait. Do you mind sharing?"

Steve came back into the bedroom to grab his pillows and the big floor cushions from the hall closet. The WDA followed like baby chicks, anxious to see what he had planned. After some shuffling there was quiet and I drifted back to sleep.

A while later, Zsofia jumped on the bed and asked me to follow her. Woo'ing softly to warm me to be quiet we peeked into the office.

Steve had made a little reading lounge with the big dog mattress and his pillows. He was curled up, book next to him. Sachi was behind his knees, WD in the bed in the closet right behind Steve's shoulder, Taiko was pressed against his chest...and of course, Puff was in the kennel. All were asleep.

Zsofia and I quietly made our way back to the other end of the hall where she gracefully leapt up next to me and settled in Steve's spot. YoYoMa was still softly snoring against the wall on the other side of the bed. Bella moved over to lie next to my side of the bed.

"What an exciting way to start dad's new era," I said to the girls. "But right now I bet sleep is as good a treat as can be imagined." Zso woo'ed her agreement as she dropped her head onto my arm.

A reading lounge sounds like a great idea. All he needed was a cup of tea. Never heard of an oxygen kennel before…interesting. They sell O2 treatments, supposedly flavored, in Santa Fe!

Amy Boyer, Puff has pulmonary damage, a collapsing trachea and is 16yo.With the help of our vet we built an oxygen therapy chamber using a travel crae and oxygen concentrator. Puff goes in every morning for 1-2 hours...helps her breathing throughout the day.
