White Dog brought out one of her favorites from the shelves in the bedroom. "Read to us, momma" she requested. "And use all of the voices!"
It was nearly 100 degrees F. No one had any energy nor did anyone want to move from the cool spots each of the White Dog Army had found and claimed as their own. And so we began..." ONE day when Pooh Bear had nothing else to do, he thought he would do something, so he went round to Piglet's house to see what Piglet was doing. It was still snowing as he stumped over the white forest track"...The House At Pooh Corner!
Each of the White Dogs attentively followed the story as I read and WD made me turn the book around and show it across the room so all could see the wonderful illustrations on each spread of this volume which dated back to my childhood. "I think that was like 1690," YoYoMa wisecracked.
Soon we were transported to the Hundred Acre Wood and the crispness of a snowy day. No longer was the thermometer melting in a classic American neighborhood in the desert, we were visiting friends that some of the White Dog Army had met many times...and some like Zsofia, Storm, Nilla, and Ferguson were probably meeting for the first.
At White Dog Ranch we read...a lot. Favorite books, electronic media, scientific articles, even poetry. It is my goal that the White Dog Army will someday be ready to stage the canine version of Hamlet, with the Army members playing all of the major roles (White Dog has already had her debut in a minor, written in part in Hollywood when she was a pup...I am sure many of you remember THAT story).
We were greatly excited when we heard that Blogville, our wonderful community, was adding a library...and that Sally Ann, a marvelously cultured Welsh Terrier girl, had undertaken the task of procuring and arranging for the borrowing of books. The WDA applied for library cards immediately because as Puff said, "Winnie The Pooh's story will take us a while to get through but it is going to be a LONG hot summer."
We encourage you to pull out an old favorite, get comfortable, and escape into a book...it is even better if you can share the adventure.
The WDA is already working on a "Must Borrow" list of books to go on our reading schedule. Aren't the new library cards really special? ...DWB family, be sure to get your card and give Sally Ann (Baby Bubba Blogger and Big Sister Blogger) your special requests...she wants to be sure every pup has a reason to come by often.

Oh, I am so glad you have a library card now. We can reading together in the library. I like it when Mommy reads all the voices too.
Andy
