White Dog and the rest of the White Dog Army were a little miffed. "Really, momma?" White Dog huffed. "You and dad have been out every single night since THURSDAY!"

"Sweet Love," I gently tried to calm her. "Thursday was only yesterday and yes, we are meeting friends tonight for dinner. It has been ages since we have been together!"

"But what are WE supposed to do?" she had the entire Army pacing nervously.

"Sweet Loves, you have had dinner. Do what you all do every night next...take a post dinner nap. We will be home before night walkies time. The restaurant is not open late."

"But momma..."

"You are all VERY lucky that I am home with you all of the time and dad spends most of his free time with you. Do not make a fun evening with friends we have not seen in person in seven years guilt-ridden. Yes, this week has been a little busy for us. And yes, we have obligations tomorrow and Sunday as well. But you all know we rush home as soon as we can, we talk about you all with love and pride, and we make sure you are comfortable and safe before we head out. Come WD, give me a nuzzle and wish us a good time!"

Slowly, White Dog came over and licked my hand. She rested her head briefly against my shoulder. One-by-one each of the White Dogs came over to send us off.

But still, when we drove down the drive, I felt at twinge of abandoning my family as I looked up and saw this sad little face...
