Steve was going to drop WD at Dr. Julia's office on his way to work for her first ever dental; an event WD was not too keen on. "Feel me. Feel all of us," I whispered.
The Army spent extra long barking "good luck" and "hurry home," long past Pumpkin's exiting the neighborhood. Then we all restlessly settled in to wait for the call from Dr. Julia.
The call came a bit after noon to say White Dog was out of surgery and in recovery. Steve could pick her up around three. She had done fine, was what the tech told me.
Steve, as planned, picked her up in a timely manner so she would not need to stay at the Clinic...WD HATES our vet's office. They went back to Steve's office, where she could rest and feel less stress. She settled into a sound sleep as soon as she greeted all of his coworkers.
White Dog has never needed a dental before in her 13 years, her teeth always seemed plaque less and in good shape, so Dr. Julia was a bit surprised when she began to work that my girl had troubles at the back of her mouth and on the inside surfaces of her teeth. What we thought was going to be just a cleaning and maintenance turned into an extraction procedure...TWELVE teeth were taken!
The mouth was packed with antibiotics and she was given an antibiotic shot, pain meds for four days, and placed on a special soft diet for the next few days. I expect she will not be interested in dinner tonight but will offer cottage cheese or scrambled eggs in the hopes of putting something in her tummy, but if not, we will respect her sense. Next week she goes back for a check on the healing.
