White Dog snuggled Nilla deeper into her t-shirt and cautioned Steve to try his best to keep her sister dry. They were headed off to Dr. Julia for a followup check and it was pouring rain.

Nilla has been on the new drug, selegiline, for about 10 days now. At home we have noticed that Nilla seems brighter and more coherent that she has been; we saw that as an improvement of her dementia. It has been rewarding to see her confusion lessened as she is shows more interest in familiar things and family life. Dr. Julia noticed that Our Girl was more engaged in the exam room and the sounds of the clinic than she was the last visit.

Some of the bare and mottled patches of furless skin are sporting the thinnest covering of downy hairs. We all cheered at this progress which had not been expected.

"There are still some areas that look like a fungal infection might be in play," Dr. Julia said as she thoroughly touched all of Nilla and looked at belly and inside leg joints. "But the new hair growth is a sign that the new drug might be doing its job. I think I want to avoid prescribing an antibiotic for now just so we get a sense of what the selegiline is accomplishing. So let's keep up the medicated baths and stay the course."

Nilla loves baths and being cuddled in fluffy towels after so the idea of bathtime is not one of dread for either Nils...or Steve.

"When I get back from Wales," Dr. Julia continued. "Lets take a look again. She will have been on the drug long enough that we will do a blood panel to see how her adrenal numbers look compared to where they were in May. I am hoping that we should be able to see measurable improvement. So keep her on the regime we have developed including the supplement and increased protein right now it looks like we are making progress." (Our gifted healer is going to visit her daughter, a veterinary researcher, who has lived in Wales for years).

White Dog called for a round of jerky upon Nilla's return. "She needs extra protein, momma, remember?"  After, Nils yawned. "That was a lot of excitement and the rain is tiring so if no one minds, I am going to take a nap."

There are certainly a lot of details like that to take into consideration. That is a great point to bring up. I offer the thoughts above as general inspiration but clearly there are questions like the one you bring up where the most important thing will be working in honest good faith. I don?t know if best practices have emerged around things like that, but I am sure that your job is clearly identified as a fair game. Both boys and girls feel the impact of just a moment’s pleasure, for the rest of their lives.
