White Dog was among the half of the White Dog Army who were grateful for warm snuggly beds and staying indoors. Opal, Bella, Pearl and WD only dashed out of the dog door after standing, head sticking out of the flap, to mentally chart the fastest route down to the yard to take care of business. They then crashed back inside to dry their cold wet paws on the carpet.
The others, the "crazies" as Bella called them, were beside themselves with joy over this unexpected Thanksgiving gift. Zsofia, Bailey and Roman danced and romped all over the yard leaving a complicated realtime pawprint map from wall to door.
The surprise was Tizenegy, usually our grumpy complainer about any weather deviation other than streaming sunlight. Our Lucky Number, who in a previous life was a chained outdoor dog, could not seem to get over the freedom of going out in the snow for as long as he chose then being able to come back INSIDE to warm up. His enthusiasm reminded me to be thankful for the things that are often overlooked.
It was a day spent as we wished every day would be, together and filled with gratitude for the bounty in our lives. At dinner White Dog led us in asking the Universe to provide warmth and sustenance to all creatures without; a moment of kindness shown to those feeling lost or alone; and a reason to hope for those with no light in their hearts. At our "Amen" Opal added, "and may all those we know and love be as blessed as we are."
