"White Dog, why did I ever let you talk me into having a PARTY for dog's sake? The house has been so neglected while we all focused on my health, I am only just beginning to be able to get around, and we can't ask dad to cook party food."

"Relax momma, you have come So far and now that you can get into the living room with the wheelchair we need to celebrate...a Coming Out Party. Your friends have been patient and understanding while you were trapped in the bedroom but they want to see you and hug you and make sure you really are getting better. Plus Jane, Todd and Beth are all here from out of town; we must see them! Deb and Barbara have given us all so much support and encouragement, we can't leave them out."

"But the work..." I started.

White Dog held a paw to my lips to silence me. "We will tidy up; friends are not coming to judge whether or not there are dust bunnies they want to see US! If you get tired we can always end things early. And let's have wonderful Middle Eastern finger foods from Sahara. They love us there and will go the perfect things. Barbara made all of those great cookies which will be dessert and Mike gifted us the nice selection of cheeses. The buffet will be easy for dad. Trust me, momma, this will be BIG medicine for you."

I sighed.

At eleven when the last of our friends left, White Dog crawled into my lap. "This is one time I LOVE saying I told you so," she beamed. "It was better than the best, wasn't it?"

It HAD been a night of sharing and laughter and normalness; I had to admit I had not felt this good in a very long time.

"And everyone remembered us!" Bailey wooed. "Yep, and everyone remembered how much we like treats," Roman said. "I know," I agreed. "The White Dog Army was NOT forgotten but no, we are not going to eat them all tonight."

I kind of choked up. "Thank you, White Dog for insisting...and dad and the Army for making it so. You assembled a healing team who in one evening reminded me why I am working so hard to totally recover; these special friends are a blessing...as are you."
