"White Dog," I apologized as Steve carried her over to the round grey pouf, "three different dog mommas promised that you would love this bed. I explained how particular you are and that I was certain that this would not be to your liking but frankly, they each made me feel guilty for resisting what they were equally certain would solve your sleeplessness.Give it a fair trial and if you cnnot rest on this overgrown shag slipper, I will donate it to the rescue."
Her immediate reaction made me sigh inside but Steve put his hand on my arm to stay silent and to give Our Girl time to process and react. The rest of the White Dog Army hovered nearby but tried to appear disinterested. After a couple of minutes White Dog relaxed into the contouring softness. Her look of displeasure became less judgmental. She quieted...
...and then fell asleep. She napped soundly for nearly half an hour and then rested as she watch family life swirl around her.
"Don't be lulled into thinking that our Little Goldilocks is in love with this bed," I said to all of the smiles in the room. And sure enough when Steve moved it to the office and placed it on top of Tizenegy's old bed (her usual familiar sleep spot) White Dog wanted neither choice but to be held by Steve.
Fortunately her calming meds took effect and both she and Steve slept through the night.
