White Dog rushed in but I had heard Nilla's "Yipe!" and Steve was heading for the bedroom where the sound originated.
He carried our very confused looking girl into the living room and put her in my arms. "I think she somehow startled herself but seems all right. Can you do a thorough exam?"
First I nestled my girl against me and stroked her side and ear. Cooing gentle sounds and encouragement I refocused her to more calmness before I started running my hands all over and checking for injury.
She turned to look directly at me. I kissed her nose then noticed a little wetness. I touched my own lip and came away with a trace of blood.
"Oh, Baby Girl!" I gently said as I turned her face one way and then the other. "Looks like you scraped your nose! How did that happen?"
We cleaned up the spot which had already stopped bleeding, added a dab of antibiotic cream, and then Steve fed her a bit of chicken from the refrigerator. At that she smiled her Nilla smile and rested against me.
She let me caress her a bit longer before asking to be set down. White Dog inspected the nick. "Sweet Sister, PLEASE be careful. I know sometimes you forget to watch what you are doing. We all worry so about you." To me WD raised and eyebrow. "She will be OK? Or should we call Dr. Julia in the morning?" "I think it is just a slight scrape; wish I knew what happened, but she will be fine and we will watch to make sure it heals in a day or so."
