White Dog was already lying next to me as one-by-one the rest of the White Dog Army dragged themselves in to settle down. "Those stupid cats were at it ALL night," she complained. "The screams were awful," Pearl agreed, "I even went into the living room and hid my head under the pillows but I could STILL hear them."

"Did any of us get any sleep? Bailey yawned.

I understood their sleepless exhaustion. Neighborhood cats vied for the attention of a VERY lonely lady kitty from midnight until it seemed like just before dawn. And she chose our back wall as the platform for announcing her needs. At the base of the wall and in the front yard we listened to the answering snarls and fighting of her suitors.

"Dad who is just as sleepy has gone to work and won't be home until tonight," I told them. "Take advantage of the quiet and sleep, dear ones. Believe me it is what dad would be doing as well if he could."

"You don't think they will be back tonight?" Tizenegy groaned. "Paws crossed," went up the not so silent prayer from the Army.
