White Dog quietly spoke to the White Dog Army gathered round as we washed and shrouded Nilla, "Now, we are eight."

"She has escaped the pain and brokenness of her body," I corrected gently, "but she is ALWAYS with us. We may be eight furbodies in this plane but none of us should forget that we are twenty-three in the White Dog Army. Each is a part that adds richness, and a unique spirit to the sum of what we are."

And so we see you off, Sweet Girl, our Harmonious One with the Beautiful Smile, to a new phase of being where there is no aging or heartache and you have a new mission to watch over the rest of us remaining behind. Add your incredible positive energy to the Universe and help influence a world much in need of your gentle tolerance, caring and sweet voice.

I would not promise not to cry and already I have shed an ocean of tears. Tears of loss, yes, but also tears of joy knowing you are whole and can again enjoy the duck jerky that White Dog ordered as a mid morning celebration of your love of life. Zsofia sleeps on your bed; we are still processing, and suddenly the house seems very quiet without the piano music we have been playing to soothe you. Time and love, right? The WDA motto.

Nilla passed peacefully in her sleep in the early morning hours surrounded with the sounds  of the world starting a new day.
Nilla on her Gotcha Day. It was love at first sight.

It was not unexpected, but it was still a shock. A little weepy today, and sending strength and prayers your way.

Nilla was one very strong and determined girl who decided to leave for a better life on her terms. Run young and free again with all your friends at the Bridge.

I'm so sorry. It's just never easy to say goodbye. Sending hugs and love.
