White Dog smiled with tears in her eyes. "Some days I are overwhelmed with pride in the White Dog Army. Their care and tenderness...and understanding are simply wonderful."

Bella, our Tiny Dancer, is experiencing a downward slide with her canine cognitive disorder. We know from experience and from our beloved vet that this is common with dementia; varying slips then plateaued in cycles. Sometimes the regression is slight followed by a long while of stability. Other times it is a drop and then a new "normal." Sometimes it is a series of small losses. There is no set pattern and Bella is all over the board.

The drastic change in weather and the changes in daylight have nudged Bella into more confusion and more of a need to be grounded.  In both humans and animals touch and gentle sounds are the surest way to provide reassurance. Leaning together and hugs...saying the name...saying "I love you"...have all been shown to provide calming.

We know that here. And practice it. And I believe Bella is grateful for the loving interventions.
